Basic geology & exploration – Finding the minerals

Plate Tectonics

The lecturer explains the evolution of the scientific Theory of Plate Tectonics, involving the creation, motion, and destruction of the earth’s crustal plates. He then describes the resulting structural geological features that these tectonic forces create, from a continental scale, to features visible in rock formations of our national parks, and even in rocks at a microscopic scale. Throughout the lecture, he points out the influences of plate tectonic factors and the resultant structural geology, on the formation and location of various types of mineral deposits.
