Rare Earth Elements

 

Rare Earths, or lanthanides on the periodic table, are not really rare at all, but do not occur in high concentrations in naturally occurring rocks and minerals.  They were originally thought of as soil or earth, thus the term “rare earth”.  Today “Rare Earths” have many uses in electronics and other industries as discussed in this lecture.
