Basic geology & exploration – Finding the minerals

The Role of a Landman in the Mining Business

Once a mineral deposit is located one must obtain ownership of the minerals before the mining can begin, extraction of the minerals from the ore can take place or a saleable product can be developed.  This is the job for the “landman” whether the mineral deposit is on private or public lands.  In addition, rights-of-way, water rights, and other related work is often required for the development of a mineral deposit – more work for the “landman”.
