Mining methods – Recovering the minerals from the ground

Underground Coal Mining

 

This presentation explains the origins and the formation of coal through geologic ages.  It addresses the differences between various types of coal, including peat, lignite, bituminous and anthracite coal.  The world coal market is discussed with major producers and consumer countries.  Finally, the presentation shows the different methods of mining coal from underground reserves using room-and-pillar and longwall methods, including the various types of support equipment used.
