Mining methods – Recovering the minerals from the ground

Underground Metal Mining

Underground mining takes place using various methods, dependent upon the nature of the mineral deposit.  In massive, disseminated deposits, such as molybdenum, much work is required before the mineralized rock can be removed.  This lecture discusses one such mining method, block caving, in which large blocks of material are drilled and blasted before any mineralized material is obtained.
